"Red states, as a general proposition, have sort of a pro-build mentality. They want to build things," Pawlenty explained. When corporate giants and industrial heavyweights demand immediate, low-cost electricity to power newly constructed facilities, local and state governments in the heartland are pragmatic enough to deliver solutions that work—even if those solutions harness the sun.

Yet, Michigan lacks the year-round solar intensity of Texas or Arizona.

"The economics of solar largely depends on your solar resource," Craig noted. "The better the resource, I’d say the less important the tax credits are."

Despite voting for a Republican president, Michigan operates under a split political framework, featuring a Democratic governor and a Democrat-led state Senate. Structural reforms—particularly streamlining the federal and state permitting processes and sustaining strong industrial power demand—may prove far more influential in determining the long-term survival and expansion of renewable energy.
Even if Congress declines to reinstate green energy tax credits in the future, the intrinsic advantages of solar technology continue to propel the market forward. Unlike nuclear power or large-scale hydroelectric projects, which require immense capital outlays and protracted multi-year approval timelines, solar and energy storage systems offer unmatched deployment speed.
